Here we have a traditional Scottish dessert often dished up on 31st December, or Hogmanay, as we Scots like to call it. Watch out that you don’t eat too much of it or you may find yourself getting a little tipsy as it contains alcohol. I’m sure you’ll agree that it is a very tasty little dish. Also very quick and easy to make.
This recipe contains 399 calories per portion
25g medium oatmeal
4 tablespoons Whiskey
4 tablespoons lemon juice
1 egg white
300ml fresh whipping cream
2-3 tablespoons fresh milk
3 chocolate flakes
1 Soak the oatmeal in whisky and lemon juice for about 5 minutes. Heat, stirring until it thickens. Cool.
2 Whisk the egg white and cream until softly stiff. Gently fold in the oatmeal mixture and milk.
3 Crumble 2 flakes and fold into the mixture. Spoon into individual serving dishes and decorate with remaining flake.
If you like, you could add a little butterscotch sauce to pour over. The recipe for this is detailed below
This sauce contains approx. 257 calories
100g light muscovado sugar
50g golden syrup
125ml evaporated milk
1 Add your sugar, butter and syrup into a saucepan and melt over a low-medium heat. Stir occasionally until sugar is dissolved.
2 Bring to the boil, then gently simmer over a low heat for about 5 minutes, still stirring occasionally.
3 Remove from heat and add the evaporated milk. Continue stirring.
4 Heat until your mixture is bubbling gently
5 Remove from heat and Hey Presto – your butterscotch sauce is ready for serving. Enjoy!
